We explain what's on the label. All five ingredients.

On our aloe vera gel "Aloe Vera Girl" you'll find five technical names. Most people have no idea what they mean. We think that should change. So here's every single one of them, explained.

Important: the number of ingredients says nothing about how good, safe or gentle a product is. Every product listed here is a perfectly normal cosmetic you can buy in any shop. We show this comparison for one reason only: we like a short list, because it means we can explain the whole thing to you. As of 9 September 2026.

Show how we counted, and our sources

How we counted: the number of entries in the INCI list published by the manufacturer or retailer, accessed on 9 September 2026. Aloe vera gels and aloe soothing gels only, no creams or lotions. The position shows where aloe vera appears in the ingredient list. In the EU, ingredients must be listed in descending order of amount, so position 1 is the main component. "Parfum" or "Aroma" counts as one entry; each separately listed fragrance ingredient counts as one entry. Ingredient lists can vary by product version, batch and country. Where we found differing lists, we used the lower figure. The list on the actual packaging is always the one that counts.

What's in it, and what it's there for

In yellow, the technical name exactly as it appears on the jar. Underneath, in plain words: what it is and what it does in our gel. No chemistry degree required.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice
=Aloe vera juice
The juice from inside the aloe vera leaf. In our gel it's the first entry on the list, meaning the main component. Aloe vera has been used to care for skin for thousands of years and provides moisture.
Glycerin
=Glycerin
A humectant that has been used in skincare for over a hundred years. It attracts water and helps the skin hold on to moisture.
Xanthan Gum
=Xanthan gum
A thickener made from sugar by fermentation, much like baking bread. It turns the aloe juice into a gel. You know it from food too, where it's called E 415.
Sodium Benzoate
=Sodium benzoate
A water-based gel needs a preservative, otherwise microbes could grow. Sodium benzoate is a preservative that is also permitted in food (E 211). Benzoic acid, where it comes from, occurs naturally in cranberries, for example.
Potassium Sorbate
=Potassium sorbate
The second preservative, also permitted in food (E 202). Sorbic acid, where it comes from, was first obtained from rowan berries. Together with sodium benzoate it keeps the gel clean.

How to use

Apply to skin or mix with The Mud Buddy. Avoid contact with eyes. Use within 6 months of opening (see the open-jar symbol on the packaging). 80 ml.

Every ingredient has a job. Otherwise it wouldn't be in there.

  • Five ingredients on the list. Aloe vera juice, a humectant, a thickener and two preservatives that are also permitted in food.
  • Aloe vera comes first. The first entry on the list is always the main component.
  • Vegan. No ingredients of animal origin. Because we love animals.
  • Made in Mallorca. At our partner lab on the island, not far from our showroom in Palma.

How we counted: the number of entries in the INCI list published by the manufacturer or retailer, accessed on 9 September 2026. Mud, clay and purifying wash-off masks only; no sheet or cream masks. To be fair: the masks listed come ready-mixed, so they contain water and therefore need thickeners, emulsifiers and preservatives. The Mud Buddy is a dry powder you mix yourself just before use.

Underneath, in plain words: what it is and what it does in the mask. No chemistry degree required.

Silt
=Mineral mud (silt)
"Silt" is the technical word for very fine mineral mud that has settled in nature over thousands of years. You know mud wraps from spas and thermal baths. What you get from us is exactly that raw material in its purest form: carefully dried, finely ground and microbiologically tested. No water, no thickener, no fragrance, no colourant. One word on the label, because there is only one thing inside.

What's in our mud: it is rich in a range of minerals such as silicon (around 34%, as silicon dioxide), the backbone of the mud, the same mineral found in quartz and sand. Calcium (around 17%), as in limestone and seashells. Magnesium (around 6%). Iron (around 4%), which gives the mud its colour. And potassium (around 2%). The values come from our lab's mineral analysis, measured as oxides, the way geologists analyse rock. It's the mineral profile you'd expect from a high-quality clay, just without anything else.

How to use

Mix with Aloe Vera Girl. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse. Avoid the eye area.

What happens in the meantime: mixed into a mask, the mud sits on the skin and binds excess oil and dirt as it dries, which then rinse away with it. That's why people have been putting mud and clay on their skin for thousands of years. Use within 6 months of opening (see the open-jar symbol on the packaging). 80 g.

Every ingredient has a job. Otherwise it wouldn't be in there.

  • One single ingredient. Pure mineral mud, microbiologically tested, nothing else.
  • Dry powder, no water. You mix it yourself with Aloe Vera Girl, fresh, right before you use it.
  • Vegan. No ingredients of animal origin. Because we love animals.
  • Made in Mallorca. At our partner lab on the island, not far from our showroom in Palma.

All you need to know

An evening just for you. Or for the two of you.

A care mask you mix yourself, so you know exactly what goes in: aloe vera brings moisture, while a powder of mineral-rich Dead Sea mud nourishes the skin with minerals. With the wooden set in the box, you blend both fresh. The mask soothes and cares, leaving skin feeling fresh and balanced. For the face or for dry patches.

Apply, leave on, rinse off. A little Sunday-evening ritual, on your own, with your daughter or with your best friend.

No parabens, no microplastics, no colourants and no animal testing. Vegan. Crafted under the sun on the beautiful island of Mallorca.

What others add, we leave out.

The formula

Short lists. Clear formulas.

Our lip oils need just twelve to fourteen ingredients, our body oils five to seven. Most are of natural origin, many of them certified organic: plant oils as the base and, instead of perfume, food-grade flavourings of the kind a pâtissier would use. Vitamin E protects the oils as a natural stabiliser. That is why they keep for six months after opening, not three years.

What stays out matters just as much: no parabens, no plasticisers, no microplastics, no silicones, no mineral oils, no colourants, no harsh actives and no animal testing.

Vegan and never tested on animals.

No ingredients of animal origin and no animal testing, neither for our products nor for their ingredients. In the EU this applies to every cosmetic. For us, it is a matter of the heart.

Like a sheer veil.

Our oils are fluid and featherlight. They settle on the skin like a sheer veil, sink in quickly and leave neither a greasy film nor marks on your clothes. That is exactly how our customers describe them on Trustpilot. And they are non-comedogenic.

Every ingredient explained.

On our ingredients page you will find every technical term from the back of the pack, translated into plain words, no chemistry degree required. So you know exactly what you are handing your daughter. And so that one day she can look it up herself.

A few drops are all it takes. The oil sinks in quickly, leaves skin supple and stays with you, unnoticed, all day long.

Made for sharing.

Between mother and daughter, between siblings, between best friends. An oil that happily passes from hand to hand in the bathroom. And a gift you would secretly love to receive yourself.

FAQ

From what age are the products suitable?

For anyone who loves light, uncomplicated care: for teenagers just as much as for their mothers. For younger children, parents decide. As with any new product, we recommend trying it on a small patch of skin first.

Does the oil help with blemishes?

No, and we never claim it does. Our oils are care, not treatment. For skin concerns, a dermatologist is the right person to ask.

Why do mothers trust JunkFree Cosmetics?

Because we have nothing to hide. Every formula is short, every ingredient explained, and behind the brand is a mother who developed it for her own daughter. Like every cosmetic in the EU, each product is safety-assessed and officially notified. Made at our partner lab in Mallorca.
